"The science behind sports and athletic movement."
Over the course of the last seven years I have worked as a performance enhancement specialist with athletes throughout the Los Angeles area. Through course-work and a lot of self-experimentation I have been able to help athletes achieve their goals. I take a “hands on” approach, and use a multi-step assessment process as we go through your workout to reach your body’s potential, and improve your athletic performance.
My philosophy in working with athletes is to mimic movements that are specific to your particular sport. Through the use of drills and constant repetition, you will become an expert in athletic movement. We will work to not only perfect what you already do well, but to improve and become great in areas in which you may struggle. I use a system known as Z-Health, which was taught to me by Dr. Eric Cobb. Z-Health is an athletic training system based around neuromuscular mechanics. Through precise joint movements, we will work to unlock our bodies, “from our toes, to our nose,” and reach our full athletic potential. Using this system we will create pain free, energy efficient movement designed for your particular sport.
Along with the joint mobility work, we will also incorporate both visual and vestibular training into our programs. Our bodies are made up of multiple parts working in unison, and while it’s important to be strong and move well, our visual and vestibular systems also need to be trained. So much of sports is the body’s ability to read and react to the action happening all around us. Our eyes are muscles, and as such they too need to be trained. The faster that we can read and react to stimulus around us, the greater the level of our performance.
As we train to enhance your performance we will be using what are known as “compound exercises.” A compound exercise is one in which we create multi-joint movements, where a collection of various muscles are engaged and two or more joints are used in order to attain a full range of motion. Basically it’s a full body exercise which helps to strengthen the body as a whole, rather than thinking of the body as a collection of unrelated parts. By training this way we will not be isolating body parts and training like a body builder, but rather training like an athlete who will be wired to be strong, fast, and explosive.
I am extremely excited to become a part of Total Skills Baseball and I am looking forward to getting to work with all of you, and help you become the athletes you aspire to be. Playing sports is such a wonderful experience, and they have been such a big part of my life. It allowed me opportunities, and opened doors for me that I never would’ve dreamed of in my life. Many of my best friends and memories have come by way of being an athlete. I can’t wait to get started in helping you all reach your goals, and creating your own long lasting great memories.Corey Potter, Performance Specialist
